Raspberries

The leaves of the Raspberry are rich in vitamins A, B, C and E and contain minerals such as magnesium, zinc and iron. Raspberry leaf has several beneficial properties for horses:

  • It provides digestive support.
  • Supports the entire gastrointestinal system.
  • The leaf contributes to healthy bowel movements.
  • The polyphenols in the leaf are natural antioxidants that protect the horse's body against free radicals.
  • Supports the mare's uterus during the last phase of pregnancy. (It is therefore better not to feed raspberry leaves to the mare during the first nine months).
  • Helps stimulate milk production.

How much and for how long?

Pick a handful of raspberry leaves for a few days or weeks or let your horse eat it himself, after all, a horse is a collector. The gathering of food by horses themselves is also called "browsing".

If the horse does not eat it, then it apparently does not need or does not like a raspberry leaf. This applies to all herbs that you want to give yourself.

Did you know?

  • Are there early and late raspberries?
  • That the early raspberries are more likely to suffer from worms than the late raspberries?
  • That raspberry leaf is also used to make tea?
  • That raspberries contain 10 times more oxidants than tomatoes, kiwis and broccoli?
  • Raspberry flowers down? As a result, rain does not stop bees from collecting nectar in bad weather.
  • One raspberry bush can produce up to one and a half kilos of fruit?
  • Raspberry stems, on which berries appear in the summer, die with the onset of cold weather, and in the spring new ones grow in their place?
  • Raspberry bushes are a very simple shrub that makes few demands on the soil?

Feel free to pick a few ripe raspberries for yourself and some leaves for the horses and enjoy!

  • Do you leave the flowers and unripe fruits hanging, so that insects, our animals and other visitors can still enjoy them?
  • Take a beautiful photo of the buzzing bees near the blossom or the largest raspberry from De Avonturentuin and share it on social media.
  • And mark the herb board at the herb buffet, so everyone will know that you have picked tasty leaves for the horses.

This way you can share your happiness!
